Support for Troops "Running" High for Local Church and Non-Profit Organization
Organize 5K Run/Walk for families of local soldiers

(Raleigh, NC) This November 21st, Living Word Family Church will be holding its first annual 5K run for public servants. The purpose of the run/walk is to raise money, awareness and support to bless and thank our combat soldiers and their families. The proceeds from the Living Word 5k "Run for Public Servants" will go to support North Carolina's own 30th Brigade Special Troops Battalion (currently on its second deployment to Iraq).

"We look at this as an opportunity for people in our community to really SHOW their support in a physical and tangible way," said Neal Clark, Founder of Support U.S. Armed Forces. "We should never take for granted the sacrifices our armed forces families make every day... and not just by the soldiers in the field, but also the challenges faced by those supporting them who are [also affected by this economy] having to press forward with day-to-day living, while at the same time sending all the love and support they can to a family member who's in harm's way." Founded in 2009, Support U.S. Armed Forces is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare, and encouragement to our men and women in uniform.

"This is a real opportunity for people to show their support," said Jamie Tobler, Outreach Pastor at Living Word Family Church. "The 30th Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB) is winding up their second tour in Iraq, and is slated to be home sometime in early 2010. That means yet another Christmas season apart from their families. It's our goal to raise $40,000 for these brave soldier's families and have it distributed to them through our partner, Support U.S. Armed Forces. This 5K will be timed and certified, soldiers families have been asked to attend if they wish, and Lt. Chris Roys, Commander of the 30th BSTD will be speaking at the event. We're setting this up to not just be a fundraiser but really a celebration of our troops and their families. Along with the run there will be music, games, kids stuff and a wonderful sense of community…I invite all to come out and support our military families."
